About Us

The Current Committee includes..

Nigel Pinnock - The 39 Club Committee Member

“Having been very fortunate to be part of our wonderful world of menswear for the past 40 years. I feel extremely privileged to be a part of The 39 Club and honoured in my role as Club Chairman. Our monthly meetings are a great opportunity to meet with fellow like-minded colleagues, share a pint or two, discuss trade news, listen to others stories both past & present. With the help from both the committee and our loyal members I look forward to driving our club forward and finding new activities for fund raising in order to support our chosen charities.

Nigel Pinnock, Chairman

Kamla Patel - The 39 Club Chair 2023

“I joined The 39 club because of its social network with fellow rag trade folks. It's great to meet those who you can share ideas with and exchange trade stories in a relaxed and secure setting. The fact that  the club does good work for worthy charities is an added bonus and I am proud to be a part of it for these reasons and many more.

Kamla Patel, President

Mark McKinley - The 39 Club Hon Treas.

"The 39 Club holds great significance for me, as it represents the essence of working 30 years in the menswear industry. It symbolizes the strong sense of camaraderie and mutual support among its members, fostering a community that celebrates and promotes the art of men's fashion.”

Mark McKinley, Hon Treasurer

Keith Brown - The 39 Club President

“Simon Lovell first introduced me to The 39 Club at an open meeting. I love the history. I’ve always believed that the Menswear business is a face to face business. Modern technology can and should be embraced, but in our independent world it’s all about personal relationships so meeting up with everyone once month is brilliant. It’s good to talk. "

Keith Brown, Hon Secretary

Any Tompsett - The 39 Club Hon Sec

“I remain loyal to The 39 Club as it has become part of our family with my father, Trevor, being involved since the 1970s as Chairman twice. As a youth I attended the Spring Lunches with my uncles and it has created great memories of friendships and created excellent camaraderie with other members. Today I serve the Club as Social Secretary, humbly supporting our Chairman, Nigel Pinnock

Andy Tompsett, Social Secretary

Brian Winterbourne - The 39 Club Committee Member

“I’ve been in the menswear industry all my working life and from as early as I can remember The 39 Club – London was always spoken of with great reverence. When I was approached to join I felt truly honoured and thought I’m now joining a group of people who are amongst the most highly regarded in my trade. All these years later I know it is as true today as it ever was and I respect each and every member for their opinion, advice and love sharing fun times with them all."

Brian Winterbourne

Simon Parr - The 39 Club Committee Member

"Since 2021, when I was honoured to become a member of this unique and historical menswear agents club, it has been a master class in every single meeting that we had and in all the activities that the Club runs. The 39 Club is the perfect mix of business, friendship and partnership, which makes unique, every single occasion that we have in the lovely Masons Arms. The best of it I will say it is that the different backgrounds and personalities that we have in the club make in a sad day leaving like a renewed person and in a happy day maybe you help another member. It is all about people and humans together in one of the nice industries Fashion"

Marc Querol

Simon Parr - The 39 Club Committee Member

“I joined The 39 club some years ago to keep in touch with like-minded agents and reps like myself. It can be a lonely job on the road and meeting once a month keeps me informed with what’s going on in the retail world. I have met some great people and now also work with some as well. Becoming an agent was hard at first but it was helped by the members in the club. The social events are always great fun and it’s nice being part of something that has such a rich history. Here’s to the next 70 years!”

Simon Parr

Simon Parr - The 39 Club Committee Member

“I only joined The 39 club last year but as I have known many of the members for so many years it feels like I've been a part of the club for much longer. There were many members that I didn't know, but had heard of, and it was so good to finally meet them and everyone has made me feel very welcome. I didn't for one moment expect that in less than 12 months I'd be on the committee but I am proud to be part of such friendly knowledgeable, experienced, and enthusiastic menswear colleagues"

Paddy Bennett 1939 - 2024

It is with sadness that we share the news of the death of Paddy Bennett recently. Paddy was a massive supporter of The 39 Club and one of life's characters.

One of his good friends and fellow 39 Club member Tony Scott said "Paddy was such a larger than life character with a wicked sense of humour. He will be missed greatly by those of us who had the pleasure of knowing him and calling him our friend. He was Club Hon Sec and Chairman in the eighties, and was very proud of his contribution to our wonderful club. Back in the 80's and 90's we had Cricket and Football matches against Austin Reed and Harrods, and played on the Harrods sports ground at Barnes. Paddy was always in the line up.  A pity that most of our present membership are too young to have known him, they have missed a treat! We are thinking of his loved ones and sending our love and condolences to them. A few 'SCOUPES' were no doubt downed in his memory at the funeral. "

Here is Paddy (centre) with Alan Camlin (L) and Clive Sinden (R).

Denis Hanks

Denis Hanks 1934-2020

Denis sadly passed away during Covid time. He had enormous energy and enthusiasm for The 39 Club having been Social Secretary, Honorary Secretary several times and of course Chairman. A much loved and missed member of the Club and whose passion for this club you could never measure, he was a wonderful and super fun character and also belonged to most of the clubs in London! He was soley responsible for our now strong ties with the Victory Services Club.

Alan Simpson

Alan Simpson  1933 - 2022

Alan Simpson was always known as one of the true "Gentlemen" of the Club who in those days made a very good living selling silk and quality cotton handkerchiefs. He worked with Michael Graver, with Lehner Morris selling a very high end product from Switzerland that was sold all over the West End particularly in Jermyn Street. Alan always hosted very lavish summer parties at their home in Morden. His wife Shirley loved entertaining the members with their wives and partners. The camerarderie during those good, and often bad times for business, was second to none and helped make the Club what it is today.

Trevor Tompsett

Trevor Tompsett  1935 - 2020

Trevor worked as a hatter with both Christies and Failsworth Hats from his showroom. He then became a Sales Manager for Ibex belts and he then took a share of Outlook Belts based in Walsall. Trevor was, somewhat unusually, elected Chairman twice. He championed the Spring Lunches at the Cafe Royal, Piccadilly. He supplied Meakers, Allders and also Dunn & Company, British Airways, the Police, Harrods, House of Fraser, Selfridges and of course Locks of St James's being his favourite - with a good few trips to the Palace to assist the late Duke with his headwear demands. He suffered two heart attacks and had two triple heart bypasses and had to retire very young at 49 years old. He always attended the Club functions and, until recently, the Christmas Supper.
