IMC Show - January 2026


Many of our members were at the IMC

menswear show at the weekend, and although not bursting at the seams with visitors it was a nice steady flow of quality retailers and attendance was good.


Reports seem to say the optimism was in the air but with caution - a phrase we may have heard before!


The displays and ranges looked excellent and the atmosphere was positive overall.


Whittlebury Hall did a great job again as the meal on the Sunday night was fabulous. Also good to see was the competitive edge at the RC car racing challenge on the Sunday night - Marc Querol in the lead at this stage…

Pitti Uomo January 2026


The festive and New Year period is well behind us and already many of our members and followers are back in the hustle and bustle of menswear trade shows  - and enjoying every minute of it.


Pitti Uomo is always seen as a great kick start to the new season and this January was no exception. With 750 brands on show and with many new brands appearing it was the place to see and be seen.


Feedback from our members that were there seems to have been mixed, with comments such as "Great show all round"  and "Amazing two days - so much positive energy!". Some said "It's never been so busy but did think that there were less UK and store visitors attending".

Hopefully by now the remains of the Turkey have all gone, the hangovers have faded (until New Years Day), you've managed to get all your presents working and have changed the ones you don't like!



It is now time to look ahead to the New Year. 



2026 is an exciting year for The 39 Club, as it is our 70th Anniversary and we plan to celebrate a camaraderie that remains strong to this day - so watch this space...

The 39 Club 2025 Christmas Supper


Last night we held our 2025 Christmas Supper and it was all about quality rather than quantity - as several members were unable to attend numbers were lighter than expected. However, with the combination of Secret Santa, the Christmas Raffle Draw and an excellent Turkey Dinner supplied by Dave and his team at The Masons Arms it was an entertaining evening, culminating with some close up magic by Nigel.


The draw was completed with fun and laughter and all winners will be contacted in due course and arrangements made for them to enjoy their winnings.


It was nice to see two Christmas jumpers too!

The 39 Club Chairmans Day out


It was literally (yes really) a Magical day out yesterday for The 39 Club's annual Chairmans' day out organised by our current Chairman, Nigel Pinnock.


We started off at The Magic Circle Headquarters near Euston, learning about the history of Magic and being mesmerised by some close up magic by Chris Wood (aided by his delightful assistant Peter Boyd) & the world reknown Michael Vincent.


Then on to Poppies for superb fish & chips - and for some, a nice cup of tea. Poppies is now on the site of the original 2i's Coffee Bar - the birthplace of Rock & Roll.

The 39 Club October Meeting & AGM


We had a busy and highly successful evening yesterday! It was our AGM first and after a fantastic year in the Chair, Nigel Pinnock was re-elected for another year. His committee has remained the same apart from the departure of Simon Parr and the addition of Amanda Hinton. Simon will be missed from the committee but will be remaining highly involved with the club, and we have no doubt Amanda will be a welcome addition to the team.


Then we had the regular meeting with much to discuss and a fabulous turnout - The Masons Arms was bulging at the seams and a thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all.


DESPITE the choice of jacket, Brian Winterbourne won the raffle prize - so well done Brian.

The 39 Club Golf Day 2026


Following on from the huge success of this years 39 Club Golf day, we are already planning ahead for next years event. 


The venue, Birchwood Park Golf & Country Club in Dartford, and timing remain the same but the date for next year is Thursday, 14th May 2026.

Magic Circle

The Chairmans Day Out '25 - 3rd, November, 2025


As many of you know it is traditional that we have a Chairmans Day Out each year, and this years' is going to be magical - literally! 


On 3rd November we will be visiting The Magic Circle for a museum tour and parlour magic show and then going on to Poppies Fish & Chips for a hearty lunch.


We are looking forward to finding out how to conjour things up out of mid air and how to pull a rabbit out of a hat!

The 39 Club August Meeting


We had a good turnout this month and as usual had the normal, general discussion about our illustrious trade and how the season has been (or is going for those still selling).


We also talked about some forthcoming events (watch this space) and our plans for next year - an exciting year as it is our 70th Anniversary.


There were two raffle prizes this month, supplier by Marc Querol (thank you Marc) and won by Keith Brown, and Dave, our host at The Masons Arms.

IndX July 2025


Many of the The 39 Club Members have been working hard over the last few days at the IndX National Menswear Show in Solihull. Being a summer show the stands all look bright, and colourful and there was some fantastic product on display - one buyer was heard to say "The challenge here is deciding what not to buy as it all looks so good".


Feedback to us from the show was that whilst there were highs and lows, on the whole visitors and trade were more about quality rather than quantity. Maybe the hot weather and Tennis put some people off, but the lower footfall didn't dampen many spirits and as usual the atmosphere remained cheerful and optimistic.

Alan Warren


It is with a very heavy heart that we must advise that our dear friend and Honorary member Alan Warren has passed away aged 87. For several years Alan has been suffering with Alzheimers disease. The last few years have been particularly difficult for him and his wife Myrtle. Myrtle has done a wonderful job caring for Alan at home and will surely be lost without him. Alan was a great member and contributor of The 39 Club, he served as both Chairman and Honorary Secretary for many years the latter and was very highly thought of. He was a keen golfer too enjoying the Club's many golf events over the years.

Joining The 39 Club in the 1970s whilst working for Welch Margetson working in the East Midlands at that time alongside fellow member Richard Craddock, before moving down to South East London, where he took over representing Failsworth Hats manufacturers from his good friend and fellow member Trevor Tompsett.


Alan will be very much missed by so many people, he truly was the ultimate gentleman and a hugely popular character. His funeral is to be held on Tuesday 29th July in South East London. Please contact the 39 Club for further details if required.

The 39 Club June Meeting


While some of The 39 Club members were strutting their stuff on a warm summers evening with the proud peacocks at Pitti, others were enjoying menswear banter at the regular monthly meeting in the UK. Although a warm summers evening in London too The Masons Arms looked after us in air conditioned comfort, and a lovely meal and some cooling liquids were enjoyed whilst we put the world of menswear right.


This months raffle prize draw of a bottle of Vodka  was won by Anton Jenkins, who was grateful for, what will be for him,  a liftime supply.

The 39 Club Annual Golf Day 2025


Another week and another golf event, but this week it was super special as it was The 39 Club Annual Golf Day all organised by our Chairman, Nigel Pinnock. As you can see from the pics, the weather was fabulous, the golf course spectacular and a great game - and a superb day was had by all.

The 39 Club hand over a cheque to The Extra Cover Charity


This week has seen another golf outing where members of The 39 Club attended the Extra Cover Charity Golf event, at Bognor Regis Golf Club - where the sun shone and another good day was had by all.


Here, we were proud to hand over a cheque to the head of the charity, Matthew Hansford, for money that was raised at our recent, highly successful, Spring Lunch - so thank you to all that contributed.

Christmas raffle winner enjoys prize at Five Lakes Golf Club


The exuberant Stuart Hendo/Nicklaus Henderson was a proud Christmas raffle winner of a round of golf with our Chairman, Nigel Pinnock, and friends, at the stunning Five Lakes Golf club in Essex.


The round was planned for this week and a good time was had by all.


The weather was good, competition strong and talent was er, patchy but the smiles on the faces of Stuart Henderson, Stuart Pearce, Peter Boyd, Brian Winterbourne, Nigel and his pal John says it all.

The 39 Club April '25 Meeting


Last night was another one of our fabulous monthly meetings at The Masons Arms in Maddox Street. 


The world was of course put to rights, some superb food and drink enjoyed and trade experiences and knowledge shared with colleagues. We reviewed our recent Spring Luncheon and all agreed that it was an outstanding success, and are now looking forward to our next one in 2026 when we celebrate our 70th year.


Tony Scott was the winner of last nights raffle and was clearly relaxed as he had removed his tie :-). Here he is collecting his prize from Chairman Nigel Pinnock.

The 68th 39 Club Spring Luncheon


What a fabulous day we had on Friday! Our annual event broke previous records and the room at the VSC was bursting at the seams. The great and the good from the menswear trade were there, all meeting and greeting, reminiscing, catching up, networking and of course sharing some gossip.


We enjoyed some exquisite food, a glass or two of our favourite tipples to compliment it and some excellent entertainment from Nigel Pinnock and Matthew Hansford. The atmosphere was superb and there was a real buzz in the air and we even raised some good money for one of our favourite charities too.

The 39 Club March 25 Meeting


It was another great gathering of the members yesterday. It started with a brilliant committee meeting late in the afternoon and then went on to a full, regular, monthly meeting at The Masons Arms afterwards.


Pete Southwell won the raffle and before anyone asks no, he is not on the sauce again - it was a token bottle to be replaced by a tipple of his choice later on :-)


With Spring in the air, and the Spring Luncheon on the Horizon the atmosphere was positive and as usual interesting and enjoyable - and of course with great food and camaraderie too.

The 39 Club at the Chicago Collective


We do like to share good news stories at the The 39 Club, and after an especially challenging year one of our members, Christopher Mundy, got 2025 off to a flying start - literally! In his own words:-


"On 23rd January, Robert Keyte and Ron Smart met with me to discuss an opportunity to represent Robert Keyte Silks in the USA.  Their agent, covering the southeastern territory, had been unable to travel for some time and finally decided he needed to retire.  For this reason they urgently wanted me to liaise with their clients, to take over as their agent.  Knowing that much US business now flows through the Chicago Collective, I asked whether they wanted me to attend - which was one week away.  On 24th January, I was instructed to book my tickets, hotel and get an ESTA!  There followed an intense four days with ten hours per day on the stand - including my first Sunday morning meeting at 8am.  It was a surreal week: to go from searching for work to transatlantic businessman!  A great event, to which I sported The 39 Club's badge whilst proudly representing Mssrs. Keyte and Smart."

The 39 Club February 25 Meeting


This week we had our regular monthly meeting at The Masons Arms, and once again what a great evening. We had our regular catch up on business/trade talk and as usual this was both interesting and enjoyable.


We then welcomed a new member to the Club - Amanda Hinton from Guards London. Amanda is only the second lady to join our club and brings with her a wealth of experience, knowledge and enthusiasm - welcome Amanda.


The raffle this month was won by Marc Querol - and whether the bottle of Chevas Regal lasts long enough to share with customers or not is doubtful. Enjoy it Marc.




Our chosen charity for 2024 win a BAFTA Award


We are so proud that our chosen charity for 2024, Medicinema, were presented with The BAFTA Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema Award recently.


Ambassador Simon Pegg presented the award at the star studded event, and all of us at The 39 Club send our heartfelt congratulations to the whole team - they do a fantastic job.

IMC Menswear and IndX Man Trade Shows - AW25


Many of our members exhibited at one, or both, of the main UK menswear trade shows recently - The  IMC Menswear show at Whittlebury Hall, near Towcester and IndX Man at AiS near Solihull.


Feedback on the whole seemed positive - both events ran smoothly and visitors supported both very well. A great deal of time and effort was put into the building of the stands and they looked great and helped build a positive atomosphere.


Visitor numbers may have been slightly down but those that attended were optimistic for AW25 and placed orders accordingly.

Pitti Immagine Uomo Report - Jan 25


Several 39 Club members were exhibiting at the prestigious Italian show last week including Nigel & Sarah Pinnock with Milestone and Montechiaro, Marc Querol with S4 Jackets and Ambitious Footwear and Simon Lovell with Migeul Bellido. Other UK brands/agents showing there included Meyer, Eterna, Bugatti, Failsworth and Loakes.


Official reports state 20k visitors were recorded visting 770 brands of which 41% were Italian buyers and 25% International - an increase of 6.5%. The atmosphere was reported as being upbeat.


Many UK retailers were there too including JLP, Selfridges and Harrods. Independents included Trotter & Deane, County Clothes, HRH Holmes, Buckley Menswear, Mabbs, Hansfords, Philip James, Davids of Haslemere, Symonds and Elliotts to name just a few.

The 39 Club Christmas Supper '24


Last week saw the clubs' final gathering for the year, and what a fabulous night it was. Simon kicked the evening off with secret Santa which caused much fun and laughter as we each unwrapped er, interesting presents. This was followed swiftly by some fabulous Christmas food by Dave and the team the The Masons Arms.


Nigel then got into his stride and ran the much anticipated Christmas raffle where there were some fabulous prizes. The full list of winners can be seen by clicking here.

Brian Winterbourne talks about The 39 Club and his experience in menswear

39 Club members attended the menswear event of the year - 100 years of Douglas & Grahame



The 39 Club member and IMC Buying Group principal Brian Winterbourne, Hon Treasurer Mark McKinley and Douglas & Grahame sales agent Stuart Pearce were invited to join the Douglas & Grahame 100th birthday celebrations at the ICC-Belfast recently.


They celebrated long into the night along with 500 others guests who enjoyed the event hosted by comedian Patrick Kielty and what a stunning occasion it was. It seemed that every retailer from Ireland and the UK were there to toast the Finlay family and wish them well for the next 100 years

The 39 Club hand over cheque to chosen charity


Yesterday at Guys Hospital, Kamla, Nigel and other members of the committee had a great time handing over the cheque to our chosen charity - Medicinema. We are proud to be associated with Medicinema - the only UK charity building and running cinemas in NHS hospitals to help improve patient well being and quality of life.

The 39 Club says goodbye to Lady Chair Ms Kamla Patel



On Thursday we started the process of saying goodbye to our Lady Chair Kamla Patel and introducing our new Chair Nigel Pinnock.


We celebrated Kamlas reign and Nigels elevation at the fabulous Victory Service Club in London with a superb 3 course meal, some wine of course - and we shared some great stories with good friends and a few good laughs along the way.


It's our AGM next week when the changes will all be made official. There will  be more photographs and information to follow.

The 39 Club  10 pin Bowling Bash - 13th November 2024

IMC Trade Show - July 20th - 22nd 2024


Whittlebury Park and Hall looked as stunning as ever in the summer sunshine, as the stands were being set and order pads and pens were being prepared. It was good to see so many 39 Club members, friends and colleagues at the show and to see so many reglular visitors attending.


Whilst it wasn't the busiest show ever, it was more about quality than quantity - the ranges on display looked amazing and the effort and standard of presentation was excellent.


Buyers seemed cautiously optimistic, and certainly took advantage of the amazing deals to be had and the convivial atmosphere that this show is known for.

IndX Man Trade Show - July 14th - 16th 2024


It was so good to see so many of our members working hard at the IndX Man menswear show in Solihull over the last few days, and nice to see other trade colleagues and customers around too.


The stands look great with some vibrant and refereshing colours and although not always brisk reports of many doing good business were bouncing around. Trade was especially good on the Sunday morning then (as expected) it tailed of early in the afternoon.


On the whole retailers were cautiously optimistic for 2025 despite the various usual things that have held back business this year so far - mostly down to the weather, politics, and sporting activity.


Many of the exhibitors there are now preparing for the IMC Show next weekend.

The 39 Club April Meeting


It was another fabulous evening at The Masons Arms this week at our April meeting. It was great to see so many attending and all indulging in some excellent banter and lively natter. We had a lot of fascinating discussion about what is going on in our trade right now,  we talked of the excting plans for the club later in the year (more of that soon - so watch this space), and some superb food and drink too from Dave and the team as usual.


It was brilliant to see Honorary member Tony Scott at this months meeting as well, and even more fabulous when he won the monthly raffle - especially as it was his birthday recently too! Congratulations and well done Tony.

67th Spring Luncheon

The 67th Annual 39 Club Spring Luncheon



The 67th annual 39 Club Spring Luncheon took place a the prestigious Victory Services Club in Central London on 22nd March. 


It is a fantastic venue and we filled it with the best turnout yet.  It was great to see so many supporters of our club and the event, and so good to catch up with other members, colleagues and friends - and a great time was had by all. We had some fascinating speeches, some superb food, great company of course and maybe a glass of wine or two.

Buzz in the Air at IMC Trade Show


As Drapers have just said There most definitely was a buzz in the air at the IMC trade show over the weekend. The atmosphere was very upbeat and positive. It was good to see so many of our members, colleagues and friends there and to feel the optimism for a good year ahead.


IMC are known as being focussed on owner-driven quality independent retailers and the show has grown to now be supported by 55 brands and 142 IMC members.

The 39 Club Christmas Dinner


At The 39 Club Christmas Dinner this week, we crossed a new boundary and introduced TWO new members on one night. We are pleased to welcome a pair of new menswear colleagues - James and Oliver Slacke from Swole Panda, greetings gentlemen. Here they are being presented with their club ties, pins and socks by Madame Chair Kamla Patel.


The festivities then continued with a fabulous Christmas meal from Dave and the team at The Masons Arms, secret santa present giving, a raffle and of course a Christmas tipple..or two.

Help For Heroes

The 39 Club Charity Donation 2023


Yesterday some of the committee had the great honour of presenting the 2023 charity donation to the truly worth cause of Help for Heroes. The cheque was presented at the Victory Services Club in central London, to Mark Elliot who help found the charity in 2007.


Undoubtedly life can be tough in the military, but when that career comes to an end there are often more, yet different challenges - especially if that career has been cut short by injury or illness. It is the Help for Heroes main aim to help the Armed Forces community live well after service. The 39 Club are proud to support them.

The 39 Club November Meeting


It was another fabulous meeting in November, with a good attendance and it was really good to see some faces we haven't seen for some time. 


The menswear world was all put to right as usual, much was discussed and a pleasant drink and a hearty meal was had by all. 


We also welcomed yet another new member, Mark McAnulty - greetings Mark. Many from the menwear trade will know Mark from his time at Gloverall, Osan and Van Heusen. Mark will be a great asset to the club.

The Lady Chair's Day Out


This week, On Her Majesty's Secret Service some us us attended The Lady Chair's day Out. 


For Your Eyes Only, the location was the Imperial War Museum and we had a great time at The Spies, Lies and Deception Exhibition - it is well worth a visit so Never say Never Again. After that we considered Casino Royale but one of the team with the Goldeneye knew a good restaurant so we settled on smashing The Living Daylights out of a curry instead, after all You Only Live Twice.

The 39 Club AGM 2023


It was The 39 Club's Annual General Meeting recently, and it was clear that after such a promising year the current Chair, Kamla Patel and the Committee had done a great job they were unanimously voted back in. 


Kamla says "It's such an exciting time for the club right now, with four new members this year and more in the pipeline, a superb Spring Luncheon, the new website, our new Linkedin page and You Tube Channel, a fabulous Banquet Weekend, the recent videos by Monomedia Films and so much more - I am so looking forward to the next 12 months"

The 39 Club Banquet Weekend 2023


The 39 Club Members who attended the glorious annual banquet weekend recently, danced the night away to the superb One Fun Band musician, Ian. 


The food and service at the Voco Oxford Spires Hotel was once again superb, and the raffle raised a good sum - the Paul Weller tickets auction rasied an additional £350 for our club and chosen charity this year, Help for Heroes.


A good time was had by all and good amount of funds were raised for a great cause - win win.

The 39 Club would like to congratulate the winners at the Drapers Independents Awards earlier this week, and commiserate with those that didnt quite win the top awards. The 39 Club September Meeting


It was another fabulous meeting again last night, with superb attendance, a great atmosphere, much trade news discussed and another new member. We welcomed Dan Allen into the fold who is well known in the menswear trade - in a good way. As a Director of Agent One Ltd., with his main agency being House of Cavani he brings a wealth of exprience and knowledge to the club. Welcome Dan.


As mentioned in a previous post, the camera's were rolling last night and several of the key members shared some of their knowledge and experience of the club and our illustrious trade - more of that soon once the editing is complete..

Banquet Weekend October 2023

The 39 Club Banquet Weekend


Bookings and plans are well underway for our biggest fundraising event of the year. This year we return to The Oxford Spires Hotel in Oxford on Friday 13th - 15th October. Generally a great time is had by all, with much fun and laughter and funds are raised for our chosen charity - and this year it is for the very worthy, Help for Heroes. Chris Mundy Channel Swim


We are pleased and proud to tell you that one of our members completed a channel swim over the weekend. In his own words, Chris Mundy said:- The pilot had decided it was probably too windy and agitated - but called us to Dover to take a look at midnight.  As we have all trained in the chop we started at 1:15am against a strong tide and difficult conditions.  These continued until we approached Wissant and suddenly arrived into  paradisal blue skies and turquoise water (water still very cold!).  We pushed and managed to knock 2-4 hours off of the pilot's estimate, arriving at the French cliffs after thirteen-and-a-half hours.  Have never knowingly sprinted full tilt, I did - thinking of Dad, the charity and our donors, family, fiancée, friends and supporters - and for our team; my brother on the boat. Posted 20.8.23

During the process of building the website we delved deep into our archives and found this great picture that highlights both the cameradrie and the history at The 39 Club, This is the club's cricket team from summer 1979 where we played against Harrods.

Chris Mundy Channel Swimmer 2023

39 Club May Meeting


A very warm welcome was given to our newest member, Chris Mundy who joined us for the first time at the May meeting. Chris has a lot to offer and will be a welcome asset to the club.


Chris is also a keen swimmer and will indeed be swimming the channel in August, a decision he, and his brother Kevin, made last year shortly after losing their father. The swim will also  raise money for Aspire, a Spinal Injury Charity close to their hearts and important to the family.
